While we were in Paris I helped Jordan with a DIY sequined backdrop for her blog and it turned out sooooo cool! I spent the rest of the night staring at the light reflections and how it fluttered with movement when you walked by. It’s so pretty.

Nick’s 2am modeling skills = awesome.

Paris Fast Food

Paris has my favorite fast food. Fresh baguette, incredible French butter, fabulous cheese, and rustic sliced ham…served in a paper sleeve that you can inch up as needed so you never have to touch your food. There are other flavors that I’m sure are equally delicious and you can find them on every corner at every bakery. They have been a delightful staple, words cannot express how much I will miss french butter.

I really really like this. I thought oh that is an easy look, I can’t wait to try it. But then I think about what eye makeup would work and try to envision me walking into work with those lips and then I realize, it probably only looks awesome with half your face showing next to pretty shiny nails and photographed for an editorial. But it’s still really pretty and makes me happy just knowing it exists.

Evening Train Surprise

With all our train traveling we have never had a single issue. They are always on time we are always on time, its a great relationship. We boarded our train to Basel and it didn’t leave at 6:23…by 6:35 they made an announcement we needed to exit and board on another track, bazaar. So we got settled on our next train, in first class because of our train pass, and an hour later they brought us a snack pack I can only assume was to apologize for the inconvenience. I love surprises especially when they involve free food in Europe.

Vending Machine Win

We missed our train from Paris to Basel by 4 minutes today from bus traffic so we got special snacks from the vending machine while we waited for the next train. Nick chose his favorite Grapefruit Soda, and I splurged for the Mars Bar…Mars bars are nothing special in Germany or England but they are awesome in France. It was a close call with the Mars bars, and we were prepared to shake the machine if necessary, but it fell with a slight nudge and to our delight we heard the clanking of change as well. AWESOME free candy! Then we thought…well would it do that again? We figured out if it doesn’t drop, it automatically spits out your money so with just the right timing you can get both! The second time it stuck but gave us change so we inserted the money hoping for a double drop…but the third one got stuck and we got in trouble for trying to shake the machine.

Traveling with a 6 foot long bag

So Nick brought his skis on our trip with high hopes of skiing the alps during our 4 month stay. Let me remind you we came August 30th and yes we got a few misunderstood looks as we traipsed through airports and train stations with two large bags and a long ski bag at the end of August. With the massive lack of snowfall in Europe his dreams were nearly crushed but we are pulling out our last miracle of the trip and head to Switzerland tomorrow! His bags are packed and he is one very excited boy to finally see some snow.

le Tour Eiffel on the hour

The Eiffel Tower is as fabulous as everyone makes it. The fact that it is in practically every girls college dorm room across America is quite justified. It is absolutely delightful to see it from any vantage point throughout Paris. I take pictures of it whenever I see it; from a boat, from our room window, from the 3rd floor of the Pompidou Modern Art Museum, and of course we always take a subway to it when we are passing through. One thing that makes the eiffel tower extra special is that it sparkles with a million lights every hour on the hour for 5 minutes. We happen to be staying with friends 1 block away from the lovely sight so at 2 minutes to midnight we walked down the street to capture the sparkling magic. Of course you can’t really tell here but the videos almost do it justice (not really) BUT our camera ate all our videos…ie I can’t figure out how to transfer them to the computer, ha!

Today we hung out in a neighborhood right next to the Eiffel Tower, our FAVORITE ps. Here are a few shots from the day.

Illumination Parisian style.

I can use the words one million pencils and I don’t think it would be that much of an exaggeration.

Cactus mounds underneath the million hanging pencils. We love instillation art.

Look at how pretty those feathers are! Seeing the head actually made me want to buy it more. It just seemed fresh and a million times better for my body to consume.

Christmas in Normandy

With the whirlwind of traveling the last 4 months we hardly know what day of the week it is, let alone what holiday is approaching. We are in Normandy with the Blairs for Christmas, which is a treat! But we have really been missing our families and it hasn’t felt like Christmas, more like hanging out with good friends. So as we were thinking of ways to get into the holiday spirit the Blairs mentioned having the book “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” I grew up with the 80′s classic movie representation of this story and love the tradition of watching it every year. Nick on the other hand grew up with the book as a tradition in the Moore house so last night we all cozied around the fire and read the first chapter. With the opening few sentences, it finally felt like Christmas. It made me start to think what traditions we will want to have with our kids for Christmas. The book and movie will definitely be one of them.
